In a world overwhelmed by plastic pollution, UOA is a design exploration of bio-material solutions, transforming everyday essentials into sustainable experiences. By reimagining packaging for moisturizer, body oil, and lube—often-overlooked yet essential self-care products—UOA empowers individuals while reducing plastic waste. This project challenges conventional design, proving that sustainability and personal care can go hand in hand.

Exhibited at London Design Festival 2024 as part of Brompton Design District.

THE PROBLEM.

THE PROBLEM.

UOA started off as a simple idea: how could we re-imagine intimate care products like lube and vaginal moisturisers - traditionally unsexy products - and make them sexy?

Initially, UOA focused on designing for women going through menopause, a hormonal change that occurs around the ages of 45-55. Among many other uncomfortable symptoms, such as hot flushes, weight changes, and brain fog, thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls, known as vaginal atrophy, affects 34% of women during menopause.

THE STORY.

THE STORY.

The primary goal was to create a product that was more accessible, both in functionality and sustainability. Resulting in a quick and easy way to dispense hydration products, suitable for use in public bathrooms or on the go, while also being environmentally friendly.

Through research and conversations with women and people with real experience of menopause, we found that discussing menopause symptoms affecting intimate areas was challenging. By including more approachable items like body oil and moisturiser, UOA hopes to bring intimate care products and practices into more conversations.

THE SOLUTION.

THE SOLUTION.

Inspired by initial experimentation with lube-filled 'boba' or alginate pods worn like jewels to reframe the narrative around intimate care, UOA pods are made from strong yet fully biodegradable materials that decompose within six weeks. They represent a significant shift toward a circular economy - eliminating the need to purchase new bottles, reducing waste, and promoting environmental responsibility.
